ABOUT
MAANGO
MISSION & HISTORY.
MAANGO (Making Asian Americans Noticeably Grow Outwards) is a student-led organization that focuses on developing a strong and educational AAPI history curriculum! We hope to create a community of motivated high schoolers to become leaders of our community by serving as instructors to teach the younger AAPI generation about the history that is left out in many schools across Westchester!

We were founded in 2021 by Ashley Dang & Larry Tao. With the rising Asian hate across the country, AAPI youth have been feeling more isolated than ever. We have also noticed a lack of opportunities for AAPI youth to get involved as activists and volunteers in their local communities. We felt a need for greater unity within this community and we want to create a safe place for all Asian American kids where they belong and can participate in meaningful activities. Our vision is to have programs that are created and run by Asian American youth, educating people from young students to adults with heritage, history, unity, and much more!

Our focus on AAPI History comes from an understanding that much of our community's disconnection is due to the lack of historical visibility regarding our local AAPI family.

Throughout the past couple of years, our research team has investigated the untold AAPI history that have left so many Asian Americans confused and alone. Our mission is to restore the crucial but missing events that have been left out of our school's curriculums.
