PAST EVENTS

In the summer of 2023, the AAPI History Summer Program was successfully executed by 6 instructors from the MAAGO team (Ashley Dang, Sophia Wong, Olivia Chen, Selina Li, Aaron Yang, Ryan Im, Victoria Shen, and Ruhi Khanna). Our extensively researched curriculum was delivered through 7 lessons in 8 weeks. The lessons were delivered on Zoom through interactive lessons. Projects & activities were used to keep participants engaged. Over the summer, participants delved into various aspects of the history of AANHPI (Asian American Native Hawaiian Pacific Islanders). The topics covered include the following: The beginnings of Asians in America;Anti-Chinese movement of 1870s;Early 20th Centry;Anna May Wong;Supreme Court Cases;Civil Rights Era; and 9/11. Through this program, we reached a broad audience totaling to over 100 people who demonstrated interest. It not only educated students and adults but also fostered a deeper appreciation for the diverse and impactful contributions of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders to American history.

On June 11th, 2023, MAANGO was invited by OCA-WHV to provide a demo-lesson about AAPI history and its significance. This half-day interactive seminar was specifically designed for Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) high school students, aiming to empower AAPI youth with valuable resources and guidance for advocacy leadership. The lesson was led by team leaders Ashley Dang and Ruhi Khanna.

MAANGO Open House

On February 12th, 2023, our MAANGO team introduced ourselves to the public eye. During this open house, we launched a couple of our researched history lessons (Lesson 9/11, Supreme Court Cases, and Delano Grape Strike) as well as introduced our mission and goals to prospective members. This event was well attended, with a culturally diverse audience including students from several Westchester high schools and parents. This event was led by team leaders Ashley Dang, Larry Tao, Charlie Seo, Sophia Wong, Victoria Shen, Ruhi Khanna, and Olivia Chen. We want to thank OCA-WHV for sponsoring our event. We also want to thank the Scarsdale Public Library for providing us with the venue!
